Working as a subcontractor with the McAvoy Group Stothers delivered Mechanical and Electrical services to the Ocean Academy, Poole. The Ocean Academy provides 360 places for children between 7 and 11 with the intake of pupils in September 2015.
Using a combination of modular and conventional steel frame construction, the school was delivered in time to open for the influx of pupils. The building employs a modular design with a 90% Modular manufactured off site at McAvoy Group’s production facility. Due to this modular build we were able to install 1st fix services prior to the units being delivered to site which helped with programming and on site coordination
Electrical services included a main switchboard installation, containment, general power, general & emergency lighting installation, fire alarm system, intruder alarm, disabled toilet alarm, CCTV, data installation, TV, Satellite & Radio installation.
Mechanical services included a new heating installation, cold & hot water installation, plumbing installation, ventilation & cooling, sprinkler installation, natural gas installation, BMS & controls.
A huge focus for the Ocean Academy Poole project was sustainability which was incorporated into the wider framework from the very beginning with targets set to achieve a BREEAM Very Good compliant score. This included insuring energy use was assessed throughout the project form beginning to end. The result was a building that easily exceeds its emission targets and that can proudly serve the local community in a sustainable way.
