Kelvin Data Centre, University of Glasgow

We have been awarded the M&E works on a newly constructed resilient data centre for the University of Glasgow.

The data centre will accommodate the Scot Grid servers, School Physics & Astronomy, IT and potential for further corporate IT systems that would create a centralised ‘fit-for-purpose’ data centre. The intent is for the facility to maintain the standards of the Uptime Institute Certification to allow for future accreditation to be sought.

The building has been designed utilising traditional build methods and shall house 2 No data halls. Initially, only Data Hall 1 will be fitted out, however services will be installed to allow ease of connection into the infrastructure for Hall 2.

Each of the 2 No. halls are capable of functioning autonomously, each hall having its own plant and services. Recognising the industry trends towards green cooling, the building has been designed to facilitate a cooling system which incorporates free-cooling.
